About Us

The Downey Beat provides news, stories and articles on “All Things Downey”. The online news outlet was founded by Ben Baeder, a prize-winning journalist. The outlet was purchased by Dn. Mario A. Guerra in December of 2012. Mario purchased the online paper because he felt that it was an important resource for the city. Mario has hired John Zander as managing editor. John oversees the day-to-day operations of the outlet. Under Zander’s supervision, the outlet has become a “Magazine” for the city focusing on the positive aspects of the wonderful city of Downey, its residents and businesses.
