Vallarta Market in Downey officialy opened its doors last week, with the Grand Opening boasting lots of goodies for the first 400 customers including free gift baskets, raffle prizes and a mariachi band.

This family started from humble beginnings, the Downey store marks their 48th.

The company has over $1 billion in sales and employ over 9,000 associates. The Gonzalez family is very involved in the community, as a tesimony to that donated $2,000 to Warren High School.

Former Mayor Mario Guerra noted “I’m proud of the economic plan that helped make this revitalization happen and I’m thrilled for the new life at this location. Welcome Vallarta.”

The festivities actually began with a VIP reception the night before. Guerra recalled “I remember meeting with them years ago when they wanted to come into this location and their excitement. We also met Ron Beach from the old Beaches Market and reminisced about the added 10,000 additional square footage.”

The Market has invested large sums of money on renovations. Everything had to be completely redone, only the roof and the outer walls were left at the beginning.

For several years the Downey City Council has been working on replacing the old Beaches Market and former Bakers Square on Imperial Hwy.

Last year they announced that Vallarta Market, along with a Starbucks, would be taking over the property.

“It really looks good over here, I am very happy about this development,” said Guerra.
