On September 12, 2013, Mayor Mario A. Guerra was installed as the new President for the Independent Cities Association (ICA) during a special installation dinner at the Columbia Memorial Space Center.
Mayor Mario A. Guerra is now officially the second Downey elected official in ICA and Downey history to serve as President.
ICA is an organization made up of 53 full service cities (cities that provide their own police and/or fire services) dedicated to representing the best interests of citizens. The organization represents 7 million people, a membership which alone would be equivalent to the 13th largest state by population.
“I am beyond honored to serve as the new ICA President and look forward to representing such a fine and respected organization. I look forward to working with my fellow ICA colleagues to continue to represent the best interests of our citizens,” said Mayor Mario A. Guerra.
A special guest in attendance at the ICA Installation dinner was the honorable Mayor Tom Crosby from Roscommon, Ireland, the birthplace of Governor John Gately Downey and Downey’s newest Sister City.
“It was a sincere to privilege to have Mayor Tom Crosby present at this special event. He is a true man of character and respected leader. I thank him for flying out to Downey and sharing this moment with me and my colleagues,” added Mayor Mario A. Guerra.
