Reminder: Renowned teacher speaking tonight about kids and literacy

DOWNEY – The city’s library is bringing in the 2007 teacher of the year to show residents how to get children excited about reading.
Alan Lawrence Sitomer will speak from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17 at the City Council Chambers, 11111 Brookshire Ave., Downey.
Sitomer is the the author of the award-winning book “Teaching Teens and Reaping Results in a Wi-Fi, Hip-Hop,Where-Has-All-the-Sanity-Gone World: Stories, Strategies, Tools, and Tips from a Three-Time Teacher of the Year Award Winner.”
He will discuss his experiences teaching at inner-city high schools along with strategies of how to get teenagers to read.
