DOWNEY – A 3-year-old girl and an adult man were shot about 4:30 p.m. Friday near an apartment building on the 8200 block of Telegraph Road, according to sheriff’s deputies.
Both were transported to the hospital, according to Sgt. Dwayne Cooper of the Downey Police Department.
Neighbors said that despite constant patrolling by the Downey Police, the neighborhood is full of gangsters.
“There are so many cholos here,” said one man, who asked to be kept anonymous due to fear for his safety. “Three months ago, I heard seven shots, and the police were here within about one minute and they arrested, I think, three guys.”
He was shaken up by the shooting of the child, he said.
“Oh my God, a little girl,” he said.
Police had several men in custody, but they were still sorting out the details of the shooting. The Downey Police Department led the investigation and they were assisted by sheriff’s deputies.
Neighbors believed some sort of disagreement or altercation started at a nearby liquor store and then moved one property to the east in front of an apartment building.
Cooper did not immediately know the conditions of the little girl or the man.
Telegraph Road was blocked in both directions just east of Paramount Boulevard.
