Marquez trying to jump to Gafin’s District 1, former Bell Gardens councilman running for citywide council seat
DOWNEY – Councilman Luis Marquez has filed to run for the District 1 seat being vacated by termed-out Councilman David Gavin, and former Bell Gardens City Councilman Salvador Franco is running for the citywide District 5 seat, according to notices filed at City Hall on Thursday.
Marquez currently holds the District 5 seat. He will now challenge Planning Commissioner Michael Murray for the District 1 seat.
Franco is the third candidate for District 5. Attorney and real estate broker Alex Saab and Warren High School baseball player Gabriel Orozco are both running for the at-large seat.
Mayor Roger Brossmer is unopposed so far for the District 3 seat.
The election is Nov. 6.
