Man accused of double shooting was arrested in May for having meth
DOWNEY – The man accused of shooting a 2-year-old and her father on Friday was arrested in May for possession of meth amphetamine, according to police records.
Alexander Antonio Roberts, who turned 22 on Sunday, was arrested about 11 p.m. May 26 on the 8200 block of Birchcrest Road on suspicion of possession meth amphetamine, according to Downey Police records.
He also had an outstanding warrant related to driving without a license, according to records.
Roberts was booked and released.
Roberts is suspected of shooting a 2-year-old girl and her 20-year-old father in a parking area in front of an apartment building just east of Paramount Boulevard on Telegraph Road.
Police believe the the girl’s father was in a gunfight with Roberts while children were playing in the background.
The underwent surgery to remove the bullet and she has been released from the hospital to the custody of her mother.
The father also underwent surgery for four gunshot wounds. As of the last update on Monday, his condition was improving.
Roberts fled the scene. Police have issued a wanted poster asking the public to help find Roberts. They consider Roberts armed and dangerous.
