Former Downey billiards owner wants to ditch the billiards, create a night club

DOWNEY – The owner of Club DB Lounge wants to get rid of all but four of his billiards tables and concentrate on creating a full-fledged night club.

The building at 8206 Firestone Boulevard was formerly called Downey Billiards, but it re-opened recently as Club DB Lounge.

Owner Hayk Gevorkyan has proposed eliminating 12 of the club’s 16 pool tables in order to make the entire bottom floor into a dance lounge with a stage, a DJ booth and a 960-square-foot dance floor.

Gevorkyan asked the city for permission to lease about 50 parking spots down the street from the DB Lounge, which would allow him to be in compliance with the city’s parking requirements for a nightclub use.

The matter is to go before the Planning Commission on Wednesday.

DB Lounge is closed Mondays, and no one there answered the phone. The voice mail said it was full an no longer accepting messages.

The club has been in the news twice this year.

In March, the Planning Commission turned down a request by the club to allow go-go dancers.

That same month, someone shot at someone else in the club’s parking lot.

Here’s a link to the report on the club’s application to the city.
