Friends identifying man killed in car crash as Downey High alumnus Raul Chavez Jr.

Friends of Raul Chavez Jr. of Downey are identifying him as the man killed early Monday morning after a crash at Old River School and Stewart and Gray roads.

Chavez’s facebook page is filled with messages to his family expressing sorrow at the young man’s death. Several friends said Chavez was heading to work at Sealy Matress in South Gate when the crash took place.

A 22-year-old man, believed to be Chavez, and 43-year-old woman were killed by the crash.

Police believe alcohol may have been involved in the deaths, but they will have to wait until the coroner issues a toxicology report in about 6 to 8 weeks to know for sure. Police have not said whether the man or the woman was suspected to have been drinking.
