Council to hold public discussion to balance multi-million dollar budget hole
DOWNEY – The City Council at its meeting Tuesday is scheduled to make a budget for the next fiscal year.
The agenda-publishing component of the city’s website has been down for two days, so the budget is not currently available online.
City officials have said Downey has spent close to $9 million more than it took in for the 2o11-2012 fiscal year, which ends June 30.
The city’s general fund — which is the flexible part of the budget over which the City Council has the most control — was about $66 million this year.
About 70 percent of the general fund went to the police and fire departments.
Here’s detailed story on the city’s budget challenges.
The open-session of the City Council usually starts at 7:30 p.m.
