DOWNEY – Calvary Chapel Downey at 7 p.m. Wednesday June 13 is showing a film chronicling the rise of the influential Jesus People movement at Calvary Chapel and its leader, Chuck Smith.

The viewing is at the church’s main sanctuary, 12808 Woodruff Avenue.

The Jesus People phenomenon centered at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in the 1970s likely had more influence on the west coast Christian church than any other movement. It touched off the creation of hundreds of congregations and an entire subculture that attracted disillusioned baby boomers to Christian faith.
