Middle school teacher from Downey convicted of sexually abusing two L.A. teenage girls

A jury on Wednesday convicted a former middle school teacher from Downey of sexually abusing two teenage girls, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Antonio Gomez, 41, was convicted of 12 counts of lewd acts upon a child. Jurors also found true an allegation that one of the girls was less than 14.

Gomez is expected to be sentenced on June 27. H faces a maximum sentence of 22 years in state prison.

The lewd acts took place between June 1, 2005, and June 30, 2006 with two girls between the ages 13 and 15, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Gomez was a physical education teacher at Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School in East Los Angeles.

Deputy District Attorney Martha Carrillo of the Sex Crimes Division prosecuted the case. Gomez was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
