Downey’s Sister Cities are hosting a fund raiser from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at the Columbia Memorial Space Center.
The event features a spaghetti dinner, drinks, dessert, prizes, an auction and games.
And all guests will get to tour around the Space Center.
The cost for the fun raiser is $30 per family for families with two or less children. Each additional child is $5.
To buy a one ticket for one person, the cost is $15.
The idea for sister cities was hatched following World War II.
In an effort to promote cross-cultural ties, cities around the nation began forming friendships with cities in other countries. Downey in 1960 became the first U.S. city to form a relationship with a Mexican city when it joined with Guadalajara.
Downey Sister Cities is partnered with Guadalajara, Fresnillo, Ensenada and Valle de San Quintin in Mexico and Alajuela in Costa Rica.
