Treasure Island Park to get $600,000 makeover
DOWNEY – The city is aiming to use a clean-water program to completely overhaul Treasure Island Park, according to a City Council report for Tuesday’s meeting.
The project will include a new pirate ship playground, picnic benches, a walking trail, native plants, walking bridges, barbecues, nature-information signs and regrading.
The city has drawn up plans, and the contract would go out to bid if it was to be approved by the City Council.
About $400,000 for the project would come through a Proposition 84, a measure passed in 2006 that provides money to improve waterways. The project would reduce watering and pesticides, and it would hook the park up with river trails, according to the report.
