Downey Civic Light Opera holding auditions

[ January 9, 2012; 8:30 pm; ] DOWNEY – The Downey Civic Light Opera is hosting auditions from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Monday Jan. 9 and Thursday Jan. 12 on the second floor of Downey First Baptist Church, 8348 E. 3rd St.

The tryouts are for a play about the life and times of Cole Porter.

After court ruling, Downey’s low-income housing project takes another big hit

DOWNEY – It looks like The View could be fading.
The California Supreme Court on Thursday decided the state had the right to dissolve redevelopment agencies. The decision wiped out a 66-year-old law that allowed cities to sock away property taxes into a special account that was to be used to redevelop blighted areas.

District Attorney warns of bank “robo-call” scam

District Attorney Steve Cooley warned consumers of a new “robo-call scam” aimed at getting confidential banking information from unsuspecting victims.

Traffic backing up on Lakewood as workers install fiber optic line
