DOWNEY – The National Weather Service is calling for Santa Ana wind gusts up to 60 mph tonight and Thursday morning.
The wind is expected to start howling at 10 p.m. tonight.
The sheriff’s office  issued a warning in conjunction with the Weather Service. Expect downed tree limbs, power outages and lots of busted traffic-light systems.

Slackers can get fines forgiven, help feed the needy

[ December 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. ] DOWNEY – The library throughout December is hosting its Food for Fines program, which allows those with overdue fines to donate food.

The program is almost always a big hit, according to the library’s staff.

Each donated canned or packaged food knocks 50 cents off of the total fine. The food gets distributed by Downey Health Education …
