Deadly West Nile virus gaining strength, showing up in Downey

Facing an “epidemic year” for West Nile Virus infections, the area’s mosquito control agency this week resumed a door-to-door campaign to warn people of the potentially fatal disease.

Downey Unified posts gains on exit exams, Latino students stand out

Eighty-four percent of Downey Unified sophomores passed their exit exams last year, a number that beats county figures and shows improvement from the previous year.
