M 3.1 earthquake shakes Long Beach

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake shook Long Beach at 2:44 p.m. Thursday, according to the Southern California Earthquake Center.

The temblor was centered 12 miles deep near Long Beach, according to data from the Earthquake Center.

Weak shaking could be felt as far away as downtown Los Angeles, but no injuries or property damage were initially reported.

Long Beach is home to several faults, including the Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone and the Palos Verdes Fault Zone.
