Downey council switches building-inspection contractor, expects to save $110,000

DOWNEY – The city on Tuesday hired a new company to conduct plan checks and inspect buildings.

The change, which was approved by the City Council, is expected to save Downey about $110,000, according to a report from the city’s staff.

The city since 2009 had contracted the services to Interwest Consulting Services, but a team of Interwest employees recently broke away from Interwest and formed a new company, CIR Inc., according to a City Council report.

CIR  submitted a low bid when the city advertised the contract earlier this year.
